I have been consumed by placemats for the last two weeks ! My difficult warp seems to have lasted for ages. However, the mats are off the loom I'm very glad to say. I have 12 place mats, 1 runner, 1 medium sized mat and a sample so not a bad result.
I didn't find the rep weave difficult but I did find the thick warp just a bit too thick for my liking. The mats will be well insulated though.
I wonder if I could enter the 'world's biggest ' dust bunny competition...........................
I completely clogged up the vacuum cleaning up the mess around the loom.............
Just as well I didn't have too much more to do as the cloth beam was just about full up !
Now for my least favourite activity ! I am not a keen needlewoman, in fact I have had this sewing machine for three years now and each time I need to get the instructions out just to thread it up so it doesn't get a lot of use. You can see what a pile I have and that was half way through. Nine yards is a lot when it is all spread out ! I just stitched at the edge of each piece to let me cut them apart without them fraying.
So now all that is left to do is to hemstitch them by hand and then get them washed and ready for the big day ! Two daughters may find they have placemats in their Christmas goodie bags ! A change from tea towels I hear them say !!
Won't be able to show you final pictures for a while. I am going with daughter Alison to the Christmas market in Prague ! We leave on Wednesday for three days so that should be fun. Hopefully will have some pictures to share next time.
Hope all your Christmas and Holiday preparations are going well with all projects nearing completion !!
Many thanks for all your comments last time. It is great to have such a supportive band of followers .

I think you have won the dust bunny competition - I've never seen that much after a weaving project!
ReplyDeleteHoly smokes, that's a lot of fuzz! I agree with Cindie....never have I seen that much. But so well worth it, right? Your daughters will be thrilled to receive these beautiful pieces! I've not yet tried rep weave; this certainly is a good reason to change that. Beautiful job, Dorothy! Have a wonderful time in Prague.
ReplyDeleteI agree, you win!! What an amazing lot of fluff!! But I think I can see that those placemats will be great, I am sure your daughters will be happy. And Alison in particulat will be happy, going off to Prague with you, what fun! It's a lovely city, standing up on the castle overlooking the city might even remind you of Edinburgh :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful trip.
Yesterday I had to finish my woven runner and placemat by sewing the edges, so that I could wet-finish them. I had to get out my sewing machine, and yes: indeed: the instructions how to properly thread it.
ReplyDeleteSewing is work, weaving is fun!
Your post made me smile!
And such lovely dust bunnies!
Your placemats look great.
